It’s a don’t-cry-because-it’s-over-smile-because-it-happened kind of announcement but regardless, it’s a bit of shit one to hear that Melbourne band World’s End Press will no longer be making music together.
“So after spending the best years of our lives together, we, World’s End Press, have decided to call it a day. It’s an amicable breakup; no tantrums, no grudges, no unresolved angst, it’s just guided by the simple desire we all have to try new things,” said the band.
World’s End Press, John, Rhys, Tom (and previous member Sashi) crept into our airwaves in 2013 with their self-titled LP, which landed the band gigging internationally alongside Primal Scream, Bloc Party, Cut Copy and Phoenix as well as in local bandrooms and festival stages (Let Them Eat Cake, Meredith, Golden Plains and Falls). Sonically, WEP shifted in 2015 with the release of their epic EP Tall Stories which delved into the realms of house and dance music, upping the BPMs and progressing beyond their indie-pop birth – taking it into da clubs.
The band might not be throwing tantrums, but honestly, we are. So before they call it a final day, there’s still one night to be had.
“We want to avoid turning this into a soapbox oration so we’ll keep it brief in saying; let’s have just ONE more party. We need to say goodbye properly and the only way to do it is to be in a room together with very loud music playing.”
Fiiiiiine. It’ll be Friday April 1, at Howler. Good friends Broadway Sounds and CC Disco will be pre-game. Tickets are here ;(
