It’s signature VJ – featuring an acoustic backbone that peaks from light percussion to a climatic brass section and backing choir. It’s the first taste of new music since the uber successful / extremely-repeated release of 2014’s ARIA #1 debut album, Dream Your Life Away.
“I had this guitar riff I had been playing for ages but had never found a home for. When it was glued together with a lyric I had in my phone, “everything starts at your skin”, the song started to make sense,” explains Vance Joy aka James Keogh.
Along with the new sound comes some Wes Anderon-esque visuals. The cinematic video, directed by acclaimed US director Mimi Cave, sees Keogh performing alongside US actress Angela Sarafyan of the HBO series ‘Westworld’.
To celebrate the new music, VJ has confirmed two (relatively) intimate homecoming shows this November at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne on November 22 and Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on November 23, marking his first headline performances on home soil since last April’s sold-out ‘Fire and the Flood’ Tour. Joining him will be fiery young singer/songwriter Gretta Ray who broke out last year after winning triple j’s Unearthed High competition with her shimmering and v-mature single ‘Drive’, which was backed-up by the gorgeous track ‘Towers’.
In addition to the Melbourne and Sydney dates, Vance Joy is also locked-in to perform at this year’s Splendour in the Grass Festival in Byron Bay and Spilt Milk in Canberra, where he’ll lay down all of the fave from Dream Your Life Away, as well as a handful of new sneaky new tunes. Big vibes for VJ to lay some more on us.
