Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio is bringing his solo project Baio to Australia for two club shows in August. He plays Shebeen in Melbourne on Tuesday 18 August and Sydney’s Goodgod Small Club on Thursday 20 August.
As Baio, he’s remixed the likes of Broken Bells and Cults and released three acclaimed EPs – 2012’s Sunburn, 2013’s Mira and 2014’s On&On&On&On/Missive – and on September 18 drops his debut album, The Names.
We’ve already heard one song from The Names, the summery ‘Brainwash yyrr Face’, but Baio has now released the first official single from the record, ‘Sister of Pearl’.
“I wanted to write a Bowie and Ferry-referencing throwback pop song,” he says of the song, “with a simple, straight-forward lyrical message: be who you want to be.”
