This is the closest thing you will get to seeing Sonic Youth perform.
A torrent of ’90s nostalgia is about to descend and hit you where it hurts as Thurston Moore puts you through the ringer and personally presses start on the blender that is about to blitz all of your insides (if you’ve only just recovered from 2011, RIP you).
As well as playing the sold-out Music Meredith Festival, the Thurston Moore Band have just announced an Australian and New Zealand tour that will hit up Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. It will be the first time Moore and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth drummer) will be on stage together since the group’s final Daydream Nation tour back in 2007. The four-piece, which includes guitarist James Sedwards and ex-My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe, will perform songs from their latest record The Best Day as well as a collection of Sonic Youth classics.
Since the formation of Sonic Youth in 1981, you’d be pushed to find a musician with a discography so loaded and diverse and an artist, so instrumentally influential in the music industry. The Thurston Moore Band will give you their world, while simultaneously robbing every emotion from you, it will be a punishing experience. But it’s totally worth hit. And you’d absolutely do it again.
