Some of our favourite Aussie artists, including Total Giovanni and Julia Jacklin, have banded together to produce Thirty Days Of Yes, a mixtape of unreleased tracks, covers and remixes to support the “Yes” campaign for equal marriage rights.
Developed as a subscription mixtape, a new track is being released everyday. So far we have seen Sam Weston of Total Giovanni put a steamy dance floor spin on their latest single ‘Your Light‘ whilst stating their anger at all the money being spent on an unnecessary plebiscite.
Sydney trio Mansionair released a breathtaking demo of ODESZA’s track ‘Line Of Sight‘ which they featured on earlier this year, stripping back the gritty electronics to reveal a heartfelt and vulnerable performance.
Dream-rockers Body Type shared an unreleased track ‘My Place’ which floats through bittersweet guitars licks and angelic harmonies.
Julia Jacklin released ‘Patience’, a soft, sorrowful ballad she recorded in a friend’s lounge room in Nashville a few years ago. It’s a serendipitous fit, as Jacklin describes ” It’s about the difficulty of being patient; when you’re in love, when you’re lonely, when you’re angry. I’ve never known what to do with it but this seems like the perfect place for it.”
Gordi contributed a hauntingly beautiful a capella version of her track ‘On My Side‘ from her debut album Reservoir, featuring raw, manipulated, pitched and laryngitus-affected vocal takes recorded between Sydney and the U.S.
All profits from Thirty Days Of Yes are going to LGBTQI+ youth organisations, Minus18 and Twenty10. It’s a compelling collection of songs that really proves the power music can have. Listen/buy/repeat/support.
