On the eve of Sugar Mountain Festival – Friday, 20 January – the legendary curators of the supreme music, art and food line-up at SM17, together with London’s Vision Festival, are extending their hands to our furry better-halves by launching The Dog Show, a free community event for all humans and their canines.
Going down between 6:30 – 9pm at Melbourne’s MPavilion in the Queen Victoria Gardens, just across the road from the main festival site at VCA, it’s an opportunity to let your prized pooch shine and shimmy that silky coat, as well as donating to Guide Dogs Victoria, (there’s an entry fee of $10 per competing dog).
Competing dogs can enter as many categories as they like, the fields split into the following: Waggiest Tail, Best Trick, Best in Show, RuPaw’s Drag Race (dogs in drag) and Fancy Dress (Bowie, Kylie, Prince, Warhol). Prizes for each category will be announced closer to the event.
The judges comprise of Sugar Mountain artists, media personalities and dog lovers. The audience will be purely dog lovers. The evening’s soundtrack will be provided by the enigmatic Dog Haus DJs (identities TBA), with refreshments on the night available courtesy of SM and MPavilion’s mates at Sample Brew. Following the high of all things four-legged, we’ll catch you at Sugar Mountain 2017, (Saturday 21 January) at Victorian College of the Arts. The annual barnburning-day festival, which celebrates the best in cutting-edge music and art.
