It was a highly contested night at the ARIA awards last night, but some of our favourite local legends and international names pulled through and took home the biggest awards.
Songwriting legend Paul Kelly came out on top, scoring Best Male Artist and Best Adult Contemporary Album with his 23rd studio album Life Is Fine. Fusing his storytelling lyricism with jazz and r’n’b influences, Kelly has been taking the innovative album on tour for the past month, and is hosting a ‘How To Make Gravy’ Christmas show this December.
A.B. Original had a spectacular night, scoring Best Urban Album and Best Independent Release for their high impact album Reclaim Australia, which featured powerful performances from Dan Sultan and Archie Roach.
Melbourne hip hop master Illy took out Best Australian Live Act and none other than Jimmy Barnes scored Best Children’s album for Och Aye the G’Nu!
The hot night was full of countless special moments, but we’re still recovering from all the feels we felt watching Paul Kelly, AB Original and Dan Sultan perform a mashup of ‘Life Is Fine’ and ‘Dumb Things’. Relive the magic here.
