Rising star of the Aussie electronic scene Willaris. K has just released new single ‘Risen‘, the third track to drop from his forthcoming debut EP, Alchemy. The release coincides with the start of the NSW producer’s debut headline tour of Australia, which kicked off in Sydney on Thursday May 3.
Following on from previous singles ‘Dour Nights’ and ‘River Song’, ‘Risen’ is yet another example of Willaris’ unique brand of dark electronica. He uses rich and varied elements to build a heavily textured and moody sound, from thumping bass and discordant synths to acoustic piano. Willaris has said of crafting the track, “I blocked out everything that was happening around me and just wrote something that was a reflection of how I was feeling at the time”. The result is a rigorous reworking of old ideas and random new sounds spontaneously recorded by the producer’s laptop mic. ‘Risen’ communicates a clear inventiveness and willingness to experiment with sound, elements that have clearly paid off for the producer.
Willaris. K (real name Jack McCallister) has enjoyed a meteoric rise from being virtually unknown at the start of 2017 to playing his first ever US show in a packed airplane hangar at Coachella. With Alchemy due out via Soothsayer this June, he is currently embarking on a largely sold out national tour, playing to fans in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Ticket details below.
