The Rubens have officially marked their return with an infectious new single in the form of soul-track ‘Million Man’.
The ridiculously catchy new track is the result of an unlikely collaboration with Run The Jewels producers Wilder Zoby and Little Shalimar, who the band met at 2013’s Laneway Festival. 2017 saw the New York brothers return to Australia to The Ruben’s new recording studio – a WWII communications bunker in Sydney’s outskirts – where they lent their chunky sound to The Ruben’s delicious melodies.
The pop track features the perfect combination of rich vocals, sweet keyboard, gritty bass and soulful hooks, creating an irresistibly spontaneous mood. According to keyboard/vocalist/songwriter Elliott Margin, “The song itself kind of came from nowhere, just sitting at the piano and playing whatever came out.” The final product retains that sense of freedom and vitality, bounding through its three minutes so rapidly you have no choice but to listen to it again.
‘Million Man’ is the first taste of new music since the band’s chart-conquering sophomore album Hoops. Standby for The Ruben’s highly anticipated third album, which is set to drop next year.
