All the sparkles have been taken away and instead Jack River has left us with a warm crackling sound and a single, resounding piano accompanying her tender voice. A whining siren sound in the bridge heightens the angst of not being good enough as the line “I’m a twisted f*cked up fool I know” rings truer than ever. This siren returns for the final chorus which Jack River belts up an octave with gut-wrenching passion. It all goes to show that even without the high production values of her past few singles, with crisp beats and huge walls of synth and guitar, Jack River is a formidable songstress.
‘Fault Line‘ follows on from darkly shimmering ‘Fools Gold‘, that was also released last year, and while we can’t wait to see what magic she delivers next, we can catch her when she tours across Australia this March. Tickets are shifting fast.
