Californian day dreamer and multi-instrumentalist Day Wave has teamed up with fellow indie-rocker Hazel English to share a new song ‘PDA’ – a cover of the Interpol classic.
Day Wave is Hazel English’s longtime producer, but never before have they featured on the same song. Together, the duo present a flawless tribute to Interpol’s single from their debut album Turn On The Bright Lights which turned 15 in September.
“I remember first hearing Turn On The Bright Lights when I was 14. I was blown away. And for me the immediate stand out was ‘PDA’. I’ve been playing the song on repeat ever since. I never thought of attempting to cover it until recently, it was almost too important to me. But having been so influential for me, I thought it would be cool to pay homage to the album,” explain Day Wave aka Jackson Phillips.
“Listening to Interpol really takes me back to my teenage years and I had a really fun time covering ‘PDA’ with Day Wave,” agreed English.
Not surprisingly, the pair each have a knack for laying down some serious chill wave sounds and delicate haze-pop singles, so the dreamy lo-fi rendition sounds like an original streaming out of California’s Bay Area.
