Back in February, Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES (Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty) confirmed their return by dropping their explosive single ‘Get Out‘ – the first cut of new music since their critically acclaimed second album Every Open Eye (2015).
One month later the band shared another infectious single ‘My Enemy’, featuring Matt Berninger of The National. Together with the synth-laden song, CHVRCHES revealed their anticipated third album Love Is Dead would be released on Friday, 25 May.
Now, they’ve revealed a third single and extremely broody pop burner ‘Never Say Die’.
“‘Never Say Die’ is one of my favourite songs on the record because it really leans into the juxtaposition of what we do — the mixture between the dark and the light. It’s melodic and direct but uses some of the gnarliest sounds we’ve ever tried,” explains frontwoman and songwriter Mayberry.
“The chorus lyric came about very quickly but the verses took a lot longer. I really wanted to sum up a feeling of trying to be optimistic when you feel disillusioned by the people around you, but trying to keep going because “Goonies Never Say Die”.”
For the first time in their career, Love Is Dead sees CHVRCHES welcome outside influences, with 2017 and 2018 GRAMMY Producer of the Year Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) co-producing nine tracks, whilst BRIT Award Producer of the Year 2018 Steve Mac produced ‘Miracle’.
This album will see CHVRCHES deliver their most progressive, soaring dark-pop and snappy electronica to date. You can pre-order Love Is Dead now.
