Recently, we welcomed Sydney-based artist Julia Jacklin to the Liberation family and today we’re stoked to learn that she’s releasing her debut record, Don’t Let The Kids Win, October 7.
The good news coincides with the release of Jacklin’s latest musical offering, the stunning ‘Leadlight’, lifted from the forthcoming album. Recorded in New Zealand with producer Ben Edwards, Don’t Let The Kids Win will feature standout track ‘Pool Party‘ and continues down the gorgeous current of alt-country and indie-folk, augmented by Jacklin’s pulsating honesty, opulent vocals and sweetest wit.
‘Leadlight’ also features a pretty nostalgic video, directed by Jacklin herself.
“I filmed this music video in my old high school hall in the Blue Mountains. A lot of the shots focus on the stage where I performed in the chorus for ‘Grease’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and the unfortunate time I chose to sing ‘Wonderwall’ to a backing CD for a senior assembly. I went back there recently and saw the hall in a whole new light. When I was at school I never really thought about it, it was just a boring school hall that I was forced to sit in for long assemblies and exams. Now I think it’s a really beautiful space.” – Julia Jacklin
In the meantime, you can catch her on tour when she hits the east coast in late July or Queenscliff Music Festival. Then she’s splitting for a hot second, heading OS again to perform at eight major festivals and support slots with Chicago’s rising indie collective, Whitney, and NZ/Aus favourite, Marlon Williams. Whadda time.
