Today, Jack River has served us all – she’s dropped what will be the song of summer, with an incredibly emotional and twisted film and she’s announced an exciting string of shows next March.’ Following on from euphoric groover ‘Fools Gold‘, Jack River has once again delivered all the feels, with this track about missed romance.
‘Fault Line‘ sees the Sydney-based songstress jump between her gritty, attitude-soaked vocals to angelic high notes, dripping with yearning. Yet as always, the sadness is saturated with sparkle, as sweet guitars and mesmerising synths lean into a sublime pounding chorus, rich with as much power as regret. Jack River describes writing the song “… in a really dark time in my world, I wanted to capture the fragility of walking around your mind in the dark, and then exploding into emotion and regret when you surface. At the same time, I felt this need to lean into some kind of teenage dream to distract myself from the sadness of it all. That’s where the production comes in.’
The video, directed by Matt Sav, captures this fragile teenage dream in a high-speed romance, as Jack River and her handsome racing partner canoodle and mourn in a series of aesthetically retro shots. The fine print of the video describes it as “The first of a series of lucid dreams.” We can’t wait to be steered through the rest of Jack River’s fantasies. You can catch Jack River’s intoxicating shows in Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this March. Drive thru.
