Introducing Mushroom After Hours (Live at Colonial Brewing Co)

Mushroom is thrilled to announce an exciting brand new showcase series titled Mushroom After Hours, in partnership with Colonial Brewing Co. The first instalment of Mushroom After Hours will take place at Colonial’s brewery in Port Melbourne on Wednesday 27 June and will feature two of the most exciting names in Australian music. Headlining the inaugural event will be coveted Sydney five-piece The Rubens just two days shy of their much-anticipated new album release, with skyrocketing Melbourne electronic duo ALTA opening up proceedings on the night.

This is the first of four Mushroom After Hours events which will take place over the next twelve months. Each will provide lucky punters with a priceless intimate concert experience, featuring a gamut of incredible artists throughout the series.

The Mushroom After Hours event will be EXCLUSIVE and FREE to those lucky enough to win a double pass! No tickets will be available for purchase. Enter to win by signing up at and to stay informed about future events! Winners must be 18+ and will be notified on Tuesday 12 June.

The two local independent brands have teamed up to transform Colonial’s brewery into a multi-dimensional performance space. To whet the audience’s appetites, the hosts will be dishing up an exceptional food and beverage offering with their full suite of beers on show, completely complementary to lucky ticket winners!

The Rubens will be just two sleeps away from the release of their third studio album LO LA RU when they headline the stage at Colonial Brewing Co, making it one of the first (and certainly most intimate) opportunities for a Melbourne audience to hear songs from the new record. The band are gearing up for one of their biggest years to date. They’ve just released their stunning new track ‘Never Ever’ (feat. Sarah), and have been announced as the sole support on P!nk’s monstrous thirty five date Australian tour kicking off in July!

‘The show was brimming with highlights.’ – Sydney Morning Herald

‘After what seemed like 100 agonising minutes of cheers, yells and screams from the crowd, the band returned to the stage to smash out the single, the audience singing along with every word.’ – Scenestr

Since the release of their huge second album Hoops, where they topped triple j’s Hottest 100 with the title track in January 2016, it’s become a rare luxury to see The Rubens perform their acclaimed live show in such an intimate space. Those lucky enough to be at Mushroom After Hours will be in for a pre-album release treat to remember (plus some rumoured surprises!).

Opening the night up is Melbourne duo ALTA who have been building upon a solid groundswell recently, drip feeding their fans with eclectic dancefloor bangers, the most recent being ‘Now You Want Me’. The track soars and burns, and in a live setting is elevated further by lead singer Hannah Lesser’s incredible live vocal. ALTA have brought their dynamic live show to summer festivals like Sugar Mountain, Pitch Festival and Let Them Eat Cake, and supported the likes of ABRA, Kilter and Wiki. This July they’ll be hitting the stage at Splendour In The Grass where the Byron crowds will get to experience the enormity of their set in the flesh.

‘ALTA continue to be on top of their game.’ – Pilerats

‘They certainly are artists to watch this year.’ – Purple Sneakers
