Last night, Perth’s prince of pop and globally-beloved artist, Troye Sivan addressed the very important issue of same-sex attitudes and representation, dedicating his ARIA win to every LGBT person in Australia even getting praise from Kylie Minogue before his musical number.
“This is for every gay Australian kid who wants to make music, you can do it and win an ARIA too,” said Sivan after receiving his ARIA award from Robbie Williams.
“I’ve been so blessed to have such an amazing platform to talk to so many people and I’m going use it every single second to talk about the things that I think are really important, and fight for the causes that I think are important.”
The 21-year-old also addressed the importance of same sex marriage being legalised in Australia, reigniting calls for action following the recent blocking of the highly controversial and problematic same-sex marriage plebiscite.
“To me, it feels like it’s no longer an issue of the people and just an issue for politicians”.
This isn’t the first time Sivan has used his position as a platform to express the long overdue issue of same sex representation, with being known for depicting same sex relationships in his music videos.
