“hello humans. this is just a note to say that we’re done with the record.”
Last night, James from LCD Soundsystem posted this on Facebook, to the joy of 19k fans and counting. The dance-punk legends had originally promised the album for last year, and the anticipation for their first release since 2010’s This Is Happening has been growing rapidly ever since.
James spared no detail in the update, sharing that the music and mixing is done, and the vinyl is on its way. In his typical honest and colloquial style, he said of the release date that “6 weeks is the very fastest, i think, but it will likely be longer than that. just trying to get all the ducks in a row so that there’s someone with a catcher’s mitt waiting at each stage”.
Just last month, LCD Soundsystem released two singles, boppy new wave track ‘call the police’ and quirky synth-laden ‘american dream’. They also announced two unmissable headline shows in Australia this July, marking their first return to our shores since reuniting last year.
But the album will be special for another reason too. James shared “this will be the last record at the original DFA Studios, as we’re closing that down after the building was sold, so there’s a lot to digest for me. i’ve been there nearly 20 years now.”
James ends the long message, (which you can read in its entirety here) by thanking fans for waiting for the album, “thank you for yr patience (even when it manifested as semi-angry “where the fuck is the RECORD< james!” posts!) and very much looking forward to getting this to you.” We are very much looking forward to getting it too.
LCD Soundsystem have sold out their Sydney show but there are still some tickets available for Melbourne. Cop them here!
