LA-born, Philadelphia-based duo Girlpool will bring their minimalist rock’n’roll to Australia in January for Sydney Festival and headline dates in Melbourne and Brisbane.
The duo – Cleo Tucker (guitar) and Harmony Tividad (bass) – met at their local DIY venue, and bonded over the lack of female presence in the scene. “It’s like people expect that girls are not as musically competent,” Tividad told LA Weekly. “I was sick of being shoved to the side.”
Their debut album, Before the World Was Big, dropped in June. Showcasing their unique sound – comprising just guitar, bass and vocal harmonies – it won rave reviews all over the shop, NME proclaiming that “this brilliant half-hour of punky Americana is a chance to read the journals of the coolest kids in town.”
Summer Flake will support at the Melbourne show.
