Mushroom Wrap: That Time 11 Iconic RnB Artists Toured Australia

Words by Phoebe Robertson

We’re shutting down and wrapping up 2016 with a comprehensive double take on the year that was. From ARIA #1 winning albums, to the most inventive triple j ‘Like A Versions’ and all of the comeback singles in between, the Mushroom family flexed to all new levels this past year.
Suss out yesterday’s Day 12 here.

RNB Fridays Live delivered a whole lotta flavour into 2016. The national tour saw eleven of the most iconic RnB stars destroy  stages across the country to sold out crowds and record breaking shows. Australian audiences were treated to performances by Nelly, TLC, 112, Mya, Montell Jordan, Blackstreet, Blu Cantrell, Fatman Scoop, Dante Thomas, Kevin Lytlee and DJ Horizon.

Sweeping across the country throughout November, it proved that nobody has forgotten about their favourite RnB hits or the artists that made them possible. The 5-hour, non-stop party marathon of RnB nostalgia saw over 50,000 people attend the five shows across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Meanwhile, the Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide venues shattered records by hosting their largest crowds ever.

The last leg of RNB Fridays Live, hosted in Melbourne, saw possibly the largest mannequin challenge in Australia take place with over 11,000 people taking part, including Fatman Scoop who was on stage at the time.

At the shows, Nelly threw down a collection of bangers including ‘Hot In Herre’, ‘Ride Wit Me’ (ft. St. Lunatics), ‘Just A Dream’, ‘Shake Ya Tailfeather’ (ft. P Diddy and Murphy Lee) and ‘Dilemma’ (ft. Kelly Rowland). Co-headliner TLC performed favourites like ‘No Scrubs’, ‘Waterfalls’ and ‘Unpretty’ and your girl Mya shared her huge hits ‘Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)’, ‘Lock U Down’ and ‘My Love Is Like… Wo’. Whereas, Atlanta-bred quartet 112 provided tasty club bangers like ‘Dance With Me’ and ‘Peaches & Cream’.

Filling-out the rest of the night were RnB legends including Montell Jordan (‘This Is How We Do It’, ‘Get On It Tonite’), Blackstreet (‘No Diggity’, ‘Don’t Leave Me’),  Blu Cantrell (‘Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)’, ‘Breathe’), Dante Thomas (‘Miss California’), Fatman Scoop (‘Be Faithful’) and Kevin Lyttle (‘Turn Me On’).

Who knows who’ll make the trip next year. Check in tomorrow for Day 10.
