Regardless of the uncertainty in the UK right now, one things for sure – there are some absolutely certified tunes finding their way to our shores. Mixed, mastered and imagined by a bunch of local legends, here’s just a handful that we’re loving.
JONES – ‘Melt’
Not going to lie, JONES is our new favourite artist, and we’ve got strong vibes for her debut album New Skin, slated to be released in October. The twenty-five year old has already scored herself over half a million plays on Spotify, and she’s been recognised by some huge producers, including Lana Del Rey’s collaborator Justin Parker, Savages producer/The xx mixer Rodaidh McDonald, Sam Smith co-writer Tourist, Two Inch Punch, XO, Oceaan and A.K. Paul, and HONNE. We’re throwing her new single, ‘Melt’, on repeat. One can never have enough pop-funk love songs in their life.
HONNE & Izzy Bizu – ‘Someone That Loves You’
The guys from HONNE are mad producers, having worked with the aforementioned JONES (they co-wrote and produced that tune), and there is absolutely no denying that their new single, ‘Someone That Loves You’ is just as tasty! A gorgeous dance-pop tune with silky vocals via Izzy Bizu. The track comes from their upcoming debut album, out later this month, released on their own record label, Tatemae Records.
salute – ‘One More Chance (Ft. D.R.A.M.)’
It can be challenging to find unique dance music, but Brighton-based producer, salute, has delivered a funk-drenched banger. The prodigy combines powerful soulful melodies with intricate instrumentals and D.R.A.M.‘s heartfelt vocals taking this one to different corners of the d-floor. Unsurprisingly, the 20-year-old has already supported the likes of Flume, Caribou, and Rustie on tour and he’s currently preparing for the release of, My Heart, a mini-album dropping in August.
Let’s Eat Grandma – ‘Eat Shiitake Mushrooms’
Let’s Eat Grandma were inspired by the old grammatical joke about using commas wisely. This 17-year-old Norwich duo, not actually twins btw, have the perfect blend of sweet pop with a deep dark mysterious side. Besides the nightmares ensured, the track is a bass-music-pop-banger complete with glockenspiel and organ. We getting big ‘The Shining‘ vibes.
Aphex Twin – ‘CIRKLON3′
Some have been questioning whether Aphex Twin is still alive, but he’s confirmed life with the release of his new music video in 17 years, and better yet, he got a 12-year-old to direct it. Dublin’s own, Ryan Wyer, was the lucky son, who got his friends and family to dance sporting Aphex Twin masks and merchandise, to complement the eight minute dance track. After posting videos on his YouTube channel featuring Aphex Twin’s songs, the producer couldn’t help but take notice and enlist the kid for ‘CIRKLON3’. The result a grainy somewhat intriguing video, it’s killer!
On Dead Waves – ‘California’
On Dead Waves is a v new project and collaboration between English duo Maps and Polly Scattergood. The pair have teamed up to create some summery indie-pop tunes, this one is a highlight lifted from their new self-titled album. They even took a trip to sunny Cali to have a ‘70s Californian pool party, and it’s pretty perfect.
