It’s the grousest news we’ve heard this week – Effie is getting married and everyone’s invited!
Mary Coustas’ much-loved comic creation Effie – Australia’s most famous Greek virgin goddess – is returning in her biggest stage show in decades.
The production, which is promising “heaps of music, dancing, multi-media and audience interaction like youse’ve never seen before”, is booked across multiple nights in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.
Effie first shot to prominence in the long-running stage show Wogs out of Work, and became one of Australian TV’s most popular characters after hitting screens in sitcom Acropolis Now. Effie earned Coustas the 1993 Logie for Most Popular Comedy Personality, and she landed a top 20 hit for her Norman Gunston duet, ‘Amigos Para Siempre’.
