Sydney trio Cloud Control have confirmed their v-anticipated album ZONE will be out v-soon by releasing the (almost) title track ‘Zone (This Is How It Feels)’.
Written in a small beach house near Forster, ‘Zone (This is How It Feels)’ is “our album’s flagship song,” says lead vocalist Alister Wright. “It’s sort of like breathing out.”
“We surprised ourselves by how much we liked it. The song became a symbol of tenacity, pushing forward despite everything. It tied the whole album together.” says keys player and vocalist Heidi Lenffer.
While the track starts out minimal and bare, it very quickly grows into a luscious anthem with layered percussion, echoing vocals, and distorting sounds. Beautiful vocal harmonies are paired against a sombre improvised monologue, creating a track that feels both uplifting and sad. It’s a unique collection of sounds and ideas that are held tightly together by the same vocal melody that repeats through the song like an irresistible chant.
Following on from the trio’s expansive comeback single ‘Rainbow City‘ – ZONE will be the group’s most experimental album to date, tracking the last four years of break-ins, break-ups, communication breakdowns – but through it all comes a sense of freedom and progression and a stirring psych-infused soundscape.
Along with the good news come word of a brand new live show, hitting five cities around Australia shortly after album release this September. Following their sold out ‘Rainbow City‘ launch shows earlier this year, this tour is going to enter all new zones.
Tickets on sale Friday, 28 July, 9am.
