NYC artist and music royalty David Byrne has just announced he will be bringing his electrifying live show to our shores this November. Touring his highly acclaimed new album American Utopia, the ex-Talking Heads frontman will be playing a string of shows across Australia and NZ. Following an appearance at Coachella earlier this year, Byrne is embarking on a huge 80 date world tour, complete with a 12 piece band and choreographed dancing.
With a decade-spanning musical career, Byrne began playing with Talking Heads in 1975. Running a solo project in between albums and following the bands’ split, the artist has accumulated a huge back catalogue of Talking Heads hits, solo tracks and huge collaborations. Having previously worked with the likes of Brain Eno, Arcade Fire, Fat Boy Slim and De La Soul, 2013 saw Bryne team up with St Vincent on their collaborative album Love This Giant. The pair headlined Tassie’s MONA FOMA the same year.
Released in March, American Utopia continues in the same collaborative vein. Tracks ‘Everybody’s Coming To My House‘ and latest single ‘Every Day Is A Miracle‘ were both co-written with Eno, the rest of the album featuring contributions from TTY, Happa, Isaiah Barr, Daniel Lopatin and Sampha.
Byrne has said of the LP: “I’ve made a record that just has my name on it but is also the result of the contributions of many other people. I suspect that like me, it is asking what are we like, what do we want, and what are we looking for?”
The massive American Utopia tour will now include stop offs in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, as well as shows in Adelaide and up the East Australian Coast. With his hugely visual and energetic live show receiving rave reviews, tickets for these shows are sure to move quickly.
