Violent Soho Almost Placed Half An Album In The Hottest 100

They may not have taken home the Hottest #1 track of the 2016 Hottest 100, but Brissy legends and everybody’s m8s, Violent Soho, cleaned-up at the biggest Aussie music democracy which goes down on January 26.

Soho officially had the most amount of songs in this year’s countdown – after the third, we seriously considered whether a band had ever managed to get an entire album in the Top 100. Five entries (that’s almost half of their 11-tracker) were lifted from WACO, released in May 2016; #92 ‘How To Taste’, #73 ‘No Shade’, #69 ‘So Sentimental’, #53 Blanket and #14 ‘Viceroy’. It was a ripping achievement and band members Luke B (vocals, guitar) and James (bass) even managed to make it into the triple j studios this morning to chat and Take 5 with Zan – listen back and LOL here.

Big shout out to DMA’S, their flawless Like A Version cover of Cher’s ‘Believe‘, earned them the highest charting Like A Version in the countdown’s history. Special mentions also go to D.D Dumbo with #47 ‘Walrus’ and #44 ‘Satan’ – both shared from his 2016 J Award winning album of the year and Childish Gambino and Illy also placed twice in the countdown.

‘January 26’ (Ft. Dan Sultan) also positioned high at #16 and impressively, triple j listeners helped raise a grand total of $234,247 for AIME. Whappa a countdown!
