British bass-and-drum duo, Royal Blood, have dropped the first single ‘Lights Out’ from their awaited second album How Did We Get So Dark? due for release Friday, 16 June. It’s a question worth asking of the heavy rockers, who have stepped up to a whole new level of dark grooves with this latest track.
‘Lights Out’ is a first taste of Royal Blood‘s refined rock, as the scornful track powers on with a new sense of thunderous minimalism, making sure every line, lick and kick hit their mark. As always, Mike Kerr’s signature twisted bass riffs push their way past Ben Thatcher’s hard-hitting drums to create a mind-numbing wall of thrashy, grungy goodness. Breaking through it all, Kerr’s gutsy voice is highly dynamic, seducing its way through visceral verses and creeping into a power-packed chorus.
The giant track promises to be an energetic addition to their roaring, one-off live headline show, this July at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, before headlining Splendour in the Grass. Frontier Member pre-sale begins Wednesday, 26 April at 12pm AEST. General public goes on sale Friday, 28 April 10am AEST
