Lydia Ainsworth has shared an otherworldly new track ‘Into the Blue’ from her second album Darling of the Afterglow. As the third single from her sophomore album, ‘Into the Blue’ continues the brooding alt-pop sound of ‘Afterglow’ and ‘The Road’ but finds the right moment to release into a catchy, groove driven tune.
The Toronto-based artist plays with vast array of textures throughout the new track, from robotic layered vocals to reverb-soaked percussion and a plethora of unique, whining synth sounds. This rich soundscape traps the listener in Lydia’s floating purgatory; neither bubblegum pop nor morose ballad but somewhere in between. Lydia navigates this liminal space with expert control over her voice, as it tip toes over fragile verses and bounds fearlessly into the melodic chorus. This is where her experimentation with the boundaries of pop pay off, as her arrangement of eerie sounds create a hauntingly moreish hook, which reels the listener into her dark world again and again.
