Irish songstress Lisa Hannigan has released a haunting cover of David Bowie’s ‘Oh! You Pretty Things’ in the lead up to her Australian tour next month.
Following the mesmerising folk sounds of her 2016 album At Swim, Lisa’s rendition of the Bowie classic features sombre, minimal verses that highlight the song’s dark lyrics. It’s a seamless continuation of At Swim‘s profound sense of isolation and homesickness which bewitched a sold-out audience at New York’s Bowery Ballroom last year. The real magic comes in the chorus however, as layers of Lisa’s angelic voice leap over high notes and soulful harmonies. Her sweet, breathy voice simultaneously hypnotises the listener and makes the track distinctively her own.
For her first Australian headline tour, Lisa will play a string of intimate shows including Sydney’s Vivid Festival on Tuesday, 30 May.
