Lake Macquarie’s low-fi master Brightness has released another scuzzy single and finally given us a date to expect his debut album.
‘Talk To Me’ is the second single (following fuzzy debut ‘Oblivion‘) from Brightness’s highly anticipated album Teething which is set to drop on Friday, 30 June.
Starting with a minimal beat, tinny guitar and Brightness’s signature whispery vocals, the song gradually builds across its four and a half minutes, until before you know it you’re immersed in a thick, resounding soundscape of with layers of gritty guitars, soft brass and Brightness repeating “talk to me” endlessly.
Despite the expanded sound, ‘Talk To Me’ still sounds charmingly like a bedroom recording. Brightness’s vocals are littered with tiny imperfections that create a sense of sincerity and intimacy. Alex Knight (Brightness) says the track is “a message to younger people not to be ashamed of their rawness” and that his personal lyrics can be put down to “drinking a bit” and “singing very quietly.”
Brightness will be launching his album with endearingly raw shows in Sydney and Melbourne this June/July.
