Owl Eyes’ Fave Duets

We’ve been massive fans of Owl Eyes – known to her folks as Brooke Addamo – ever since we first heard her way back in 2010, via her ace Faces EP and her stellar guest spot on Illy’s gold-selling single, ‘It Can Wait’. Since then she’s dropped two more EPs – the equally excellent Raiders and Crystalised – and her critically acclaimed debut album, Nightswim, in April. Addamo talks us through the duets currently floating her boat.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Kylie Minogue – ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’
I think this song is so interesting. I really admire Nick Cave for thinking outside of the box and taking a risk that I believe really paid off.

Elton John and Kiki Dee – ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’
This song is corny but I actually love it, ha! It’s such a good karaoke song.

Brandy and Monica – ‘The Boy is Mine’
I used to sing this song when I was little with my cousins; we used to choreograph dance moves and pretend we were in film clips. Brandy is a mega babe.

Mick Jagger and David Bowie – ‘Dancing in the Street’
This song is so quirky and I love watching the film clip, I love their dance moves.

Ja Rule and Ashanti – ‘Always on Time’
I bought this song as a single when I was younger and I remember being obsessed with it. I think I still know all the words.

Beyonce and Jay-Z – ‘Crazy in Love’
If this song comes on at a party you will see me on the dancefloor. I can’t help it, it’s such a jam.

Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin – Sisters are Doing it for Themselves’
This is such a powerhouse song. I love when women empower other women. We need more of it and less bitching in the world!

Queen and David Bowie – ‘Under Pressure’
Just two legends singing together, no biggie.

PJ Harvey and Thom Yorke – ‘This Mess We’re In’
This song is very beautiful. I am in love with both their voices. I love the spoken word poetry at the end of the song.

The Jesus & Mary Chain and Hope Sandoval – ‘Sometimes Always’
I sang this song for my show at The Spiegeltent last year with Geoffrey O’Connor; it was such a special moment for me. It’s a simple and beautiful ‘90s gem.
