“With so many co-existing styles, what could have been a disjointed listen is reigned in thanks to intelligent songwriting, contemporary production, and, most importantly, an intensity that elevates everything with impenetrable confidence and cool.”

Heads Up is Warpaint‘s third full-length album and the follow-up to their self-titled record in 2014. In the two year interim, each band member of the dream-punk / garage-rock group have worked independently and collaboratively on side projects, but have united to throw down an intricate and diverse collection of songs and Warpaint’s most progressive and experimental body of work to date.

Recorded with producer Jacob Bercovici, the album is moody yet cohesive and delivers a mixed-bag of rock tracks, infused with RnB, funk and shoegaze.

Bassist and backing vocalist, Jenny Lee Lindberg, said of the process, “Everybody was allowed to have their space, time and creative freedom with songs and figure out, ‘I wonder what the best notes would be? I wonder what the best part would be to play?’”

Stella Mozgawa (drums) added, “The doors were a little more open in terms of what was accepted and what wasn’t, because we were sharing ideas so rapidly between us. The roles that each of us individually had—or had established—were a little more malleable.”
