Tie You Over Until Summer

There’s no such thing as summer festival season. Festivals and fun are not exclusive to weather. Mud is, music is not. July brings Splendour In The Grass, and what follows is a bevy of boutique festivals, happening all across the country. They may be few and far between but it’s just enough to tie us over until Meredith Music Festival and sunshine. Here’s what’s on our radar to get you through that festival dry-spell, that doesn’t exist.

Volumes

Sydney friends you’re in for a real time because Volumes has returned and it’s expanded across two days. Forty-eight hours (including lock-out laws) of 80 emerging artists, labels and collectives hitting up Oxford Square and beyond – Oxford Art Factory, The Cliff Dive, The Burdekin Hotel and Brighton Up Bar. Friday night kicks-off with Dro Carey and Saturday follows with MOSSY, Slum Sociable, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, I Oh You DJ’s and so, so many more. Find tickets here.

BIGSOUND

The first installment of BIGSOUND‘s fifteenth anniversary festival has just dropped. Taking over Fortitude Valley for three huge nights and featuring 89 bands (that’s just the beginning). BIGSOUND is the Aussie equivalent of SXSW, showcasing the most promising bands on the rise and those pivoting on the lens of international radars. Our Melbourne m8s, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Tiny Little Houses and Jakubi will be showcasing as well as solo-experimentalists MOSSY and Gideon Bensen. And then there’s another 26546885 legends. Wild. Update; DZ Deathrays, Vera Blue and Dorsal Fins have just been added.

Maroochy Music & Visual Arts Festival

Listen Out

Building quite a name for itself over the years, Listen Out is back again hitting up selected capital cities around Australia. Yours And Owls

Returning for its third year, Yours And Owls festival has delivered a killer, two-day line-up, featuring a stellar curation of 50/50 male/female artists. DMA’S and Stonefield will be making the trip, as well as Vera Blue and Client Liaison. Why not take a roady to the NSW coast and hit up the scenic surrounds of Wollongong for the weekend. Tix here.

Spilt Milk

Spilt Milk festival has delivered one of the most incredible line-ups this year, tbh it’s probably the greatest line-up to ever hit Canberra. Violent Soho, DMA’s, Vera Blue, Client Liaison and a tonne more of local legends are on the bill, along with promises for some delicious eats and rad art. More info here.
