ALTA's Top Picks For Splendour In The Grass
+ How To Avoid Soggy Sock

ICYMI; Melbourne dance-duo ALTA have been selected to kick-off Splendour In The Grass 2017 at the special Red Bull Sound Select ‘First Night Fever’ stage on opening night – Thursday July 20.

You can catch the pop-percussion masters alongside Sydney trio Mansionair, Sampa The Great, GLB Wise and Broadway Sounds kickstarting the stage’s First Night Fever party.

We caught up with ALTA to get their Splendour picks, festival survival tips + a sneaky Japanese playlist.

You’ve just been announced on Splendour – what are your tips to surviving a three / four day bender?

Our top tip for surviving Splendour week is to STAY HYDRATED! Get that camel pack out and fill it up with hydra-lite, it’s going to be a thirsty time so get ready.

Also socks, friends don’t let friends wear soggy socks.

Name one international and one local band/artist you’re not going to miss.

Narrowing the choices down to one is near impossible it’s such a killer line up! Our top three internationals are Stormzy, Schoolboy Q and Future Islands. Our local picks are Christopher Port, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and CC DISCO.

You performed as part of VIVID Music’s Women in Electronic Music Showcase. Who are some of your favourite women in electronic music right now?

Jlin,  ABRA, Kucka, Jungle pussy, Jessy Lanza and Smerz are all the greatest, we’ve also recently discovered Yaeji who we have been bumping heaps of late. There are so many great women in electronic music who continually inspire us and largely influenced our own music.

You were just in Japan – what was the biggest cultural influence you took home?

Japan really is a special, one of a kind crazy place! Tokyo blew my mind and the kindness they showed us while visiting was beautiful. Even in such a dense city everything had a process and it all worked. This is something we took away with us. It’s good to challenge our own process and work on changing that to explore different sides of our own creativity.  Also SEGA we loved the arcade gaming culture and flashing LEDs in general.

Did you discover and new / underground music / artists?

We were in a clothing store in Harajuku and the playlist was absolutely smoking, thanks to the Shazam lords for allowing us to discover Seiho – very very cool stuff.

What was the last thing you broke/had to fix?

So lame but my basic as ridiculously long nails! Lugging music gear and long nails do not quite go hand in hand but I’m a determined gal with hopes and dreams haha.

You can catch ALTA + a whole lot of Mushroom fam including Vance Joy, Dan Sultan, LCD Soundsystem, Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, Bad//Dreems, Julia Jacklin, D.D Dumbo, Mansionair, Sam Weston, Julien Baker + Client Liaison at Splendour In The Grass this year. Set times here. <3
